I'm looking at 1996 JD 970 with a 440 FEL,875 HRS , what would be a fair price , it seems to be in good condition , asking price is $10,400 with 6T trailer and 5ft bushhog and $8600, for just the tractor and FEL.

Sounds good, get the tractor. Last year I bought a JD 970, 4wd with FEL (964 hrs), 6' JD finish mower, 6' JD brush mower, 48" JD commercial tiller, box, straight blade, rake, and auger. Asking price $12,500 as part of estate. Bought for $11,500.
I have been really happy with the tractor. I use it in my landscaping business and besides two minor hydro leaks on the loader, have had no problems. A lot of bang for the buck. ....
